how can I help my son who is falling behind in school?

My 13 y/o son (currently in the 8th grade) is falling more and more behind in school. It’s a constant battle to help him keep up and even get D’s. He can do the work, just isn’t motivated to do it.

Kick his ass!! No really. Restrict TV time, video game time, computer time. Set a time for homework only, not in his bedroom where he can be distracted with his other stuff, but in another boring quiet room. Go over his homework with him every night when he is done. Never believe him when he says he doesn’t have any, he’s lying… Get him a tutor from the local college too. They are cheap and worth it. Good luck!
