"Hey, Ber..."
Beri turned his attention away from the bottles neatly arranged behind the bar, meeting Paige's amber eyes with his own. Hers were half-shut, trapped in a state between life and sleep, looking at him across the rim of an empty whiskey glass. A long moment passed before his curiousity caught up with him. "What is it?"
Paige lifted her head up slightly, propped by her arms folded across the countertop. "Sometimes I wonder who you are."
He sipped at his drink, for a brief moment taking on an air of elegance, before responding. "Just your partner, that's all. Just another guy."
"Yeah, but..." Her voice was nearly a whisper. "I don't know. Tell me about your family?"
Beri sighed, turning his head away from hers, breaking their eye contact. "Paige, you're drunk, aren't you."
She sighed in turn, trailing a finger around the rim of her glass. "Not drunk...I'm not that weak...I'm just tired, Beri."
A compassionate smile came across him. "I know."
